I bought this beautiful and rare Art Deco Cartier clock many years ago from a private estate. I have had it in my own possession for at least 20 years. The hands on the clock are enameled in yellow. The base is stepped up in an Art Deco design. The base is enameled with red, blue, black and white flowers and geometric designs. Signed Sterling in an oval on the underside and the #8153 is impressed. Condition: The agate is cracked. It seems to be all, or at least, mostly all there. One crack starts between 9 and 10 o’clock and runs down at an angle to about a 1/2 up from the bottom of the left column. There is a crack between 12 & 1 o’clock that runs to the top, slightly to the right. There is a crack between the numbers 5 and 6 o’clock that goes down to the bottom. This crack has a small irregular rectangular type chip on it’s edge that does not go all the way through the agate to the back. There is Scotch Tape on the back for reinforcement that the previous owner must have added. The clock displays very well As Is. Im sure the agate could be replaced or repaired by a knowledgeable restorer. The clock runs, but I think it may be losing or gaining some time. Im sure it could be adjusted (please read my terms for mechanical items, including clocks below). The cloisonné enamel seems to be in good condition. The silver is very tarnished. I believe a black patina or line was added to it at one point, I’m not sure. There is some loss to the black patina. The silver certainly needs polishing, but I would not attempt it. The face shows some light dirt, but in my opinion it is in very good shape for its age. Photo Note: The photos on the white background are brightening the agate design.
